Roadside turnout with historic information sign Paved turnout, no services. Pierre Esprit Radisoon & Medard Groseilliers, brother in laws, during the winter of 1659 - 1650 camped with Ottawa Indians 2 miles upstream from this point on Lac Court Oreilles ( meaning 'Lake of the short ears' in French). Early Fench Explorers called the Ottawa Indians 'Court Oreilles'.
Radisson & Groseilliers were the first white men to discover and explore North Western Wisconsin.
When the French Governor General of Canada confiscated their rich cargo of furs because he claimed they did not have the proper credentails to trade with the Indians,
Radisson & Groseilliers left the service of the French Government. They went to England & were instrumental in the formation of the Hudson Bay Company in Canada.
