South side of highway. Hell's Half Acre - This unique setting of natural beauty covers approximately 320 acres. Investigation has confirmed that in former days the Indians drove great herds of buffalo into this depression for slaughter. Flint arrowheads and buffalo bones have been found here. A detachment of Captain B.L.E. Bonneyvill's party visited this site in July 1833.

Access to Fort Casper National Historic Site, south of highway. In 1859, Louis Guinard built a trading post and a bridge near the point where the Mormon Pioneer Company crossed the North Platte River in 1847. The Pony Express also established a station at this complex. Pony riders crossed the North Platte River

Access to Edness K. Wilkins State Park
North of highway. Edness K. Wilkins State Park is a serene day-use park located 6 miles east of Casper off Interstate 25 where families, nature lovers and those looking for solitude can enjoy the huge old cottonwoods as they cast reflections on the historic North Platte River and lend shade to visitors. A pond, with its sandy beach, is an oasis in the summer months and the North Platte River provides a natural habitat for a variety of wildlife, and for fishing, canoeing and rafting. Today a visitor can utilize picnic tables, grills, group shelters, playgrounds and a launching ramp for canoes or rafts.

Paved turnout, south side of highway. 'Rock of Glen - On July 26, 1842, John C. Freemont's first expedition to the far West guided by Kit Carson with Joseph Bissonette as interpreter. Also Al Maxwell, as hunter, camped in this rocky glen. Names and dates of many of the 300,000 travellers of the Oregon Trail are here.'
