Access to Gaudineer Scenic Area National Forest, WV. The 140 acre Gaudineer Scenic Area is located near Gaudineer Knob of Shavers Mountain in Randolph and Pocahontas Counties. Approximately 50 acres of the Gaudineer Scenic Area is typical of, and considered part of, the virgin red spruce type that originally occupied large portions of the highland areas of West Virginia. Access to Cheat Cooperative Wildlife Mgmt. Area, WV. - West Virginia Department of Natural Resources.

Randolph County was formed in 1787, and a town was laid out on the lands of James Westfall. At first known as Edmundton, the town was chartered as Beverly in 1790, and established as the county seat.

'Rich Mountain, WV. - At Rich Mountain, 5 miles West, July 11, 1861, Federal forces defeated Confederate troops whose trenches may still be seen. Military reputations of Gen. Geo. B. McClellan and of Gen. W.S. Rosecrans were established by this victory.'
