Highway State 100
Stamford VT Vermont State Route 100 begins its northward path here and bisects the state from its bottom at the Massachusetts border to its top just a bit short of the Canadian border. Route 100 is a continuation of Massachusetts Route 8 which runs north from the town of North Adams. This two lane road meanders a little over 200 miles through some of the most beautiful and peaceful countryside in the world. It is one of the longest and most scenic drives you will ever see. I hope you have the opportunity to see it all.

Brigham Young Birthplace The famous leader of the Mormons was born here. There is a marker on the road noting that he was born on Stimpson Hill Road but our side trip up that road did not reveal the location. Ask one of the locals if you are interested in finding it.

Stowe Village - Route 108 intersection There are no traffic lights in Stowe, just one stop sign at this intersection. If you want a side trip to the ski areas, turn left on Rt. 108 (also called Mountain Road) and go about seven miles. A few miles farther up Rt 108 is Smuggler's Notch, one of the most beautiful drives in Vermont. The notch is closed to car traffic from late Oct to mid May because of the depth of the snow. The excellent Stowe Information Center shown in the photo is on Route 100 one block past Route 108, left side of the street.
