Byway: Utah - Flaming Gorge-Uintas Scenic Byway

Byway Description: The byway winds over the eastern flank of the Uinta Mountains through the Ashley National Forest and Flaming Gorge National Recreational Area. View wildlife in their native habitats along the byway. Visit nearby Dinosaur National Monument and Quarry Visitor Center. Experience the "real west," as passed down through western folklore of early explorers, homesteaders, mountain men, outlaws, and cowboys. Visit the Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam for blue-ribbon fly-fishing experiences.

Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area

Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area is a United States National Recreation Area located in the states of Wyoming and Utah. The centerpiece of the recreation area is Flaming Gorge Reservoir, a reservoir created by the Flaming Gorge Dam along the Green River in 1964. Activities in the recreation area include camping, hiking, boating and fishing on the Flaming Gorge Reservoir, and rafting on the portion of the Green River downstream from Flaming Gorge Dam. Flaming Gorge Dam is used to generate hydroelectric power.
