Junction of Hwy 73 (scenic altenative to Gatlinburg, no commercial traffic allowed)

Hwy 73 is a beautiful scenic drive that follows the river out of the Smokies. The road is built where an old railroad bed was. There are may pull-offs to enjoy nature, or take a dip. The road exits on U.S. 441 just inside of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Take a left at this intersection to get back to Gatlinburg. Follow 441 to the intersection at light 3 to rejoin U.S. 321. |

Gatlinburg, Tennessee - Craft Community, Glades Road
|
The loop road here meanders 8 miles through the countryside. There are over 30 stops where you can see crafts people demonstrating their craft. The shops include everything from candlemaking, painting, broom making, photography, glasswork, to pottery. While you are visiting visit the Wild Plum Tea Room for a refreshing break, or the Fox and Parrot tavern for libations. |

Smoky Mountain National Park Horseback riding stable
|
This stable is a concession of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. They rent horses and guides by the hour. The only stable that has a contract with the National Park. 865-436-5634 |

This section of the Foothills parkway is only 12 miles long, but a nice detour (and a shortcut to I-40 towards Asheville). The scenery is very dramatic as the road meanders along the southeastern border of the Smoky Mountain National Park |
