U.S. 6 - Grand Army of the Republic Highway
In October 1925, the Joint Board on Interstate Highways recommended a 75,884-mile U.S. numbered system. One of the routes in the proposal was U.S. 6: Pennsylvania Beginning at the New York-Pennsylvania State line at Port Jervis, Pa. via Matamoras, Pa. Milford, Pa. Honesdale, Pa. Carbondale, Pa. Scranton, Pa. Clarks Summit, Pa. Tunkhannock, Pa. Wyalusing, Pa. Towanda, Pa. Mansfield, Pa. Canoe Camp, Pa. Wellsboro, Pa. Coudersport, Pa. Farmers Valley, Pa. Kane, Pa. Warren, Pa. Corry, Pa. Waterford to Erie, Pa.

Western boundary. From the 50 mile long gorge of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon to Cowanesque, Tioga-Hammond and four other lakes in the county, you will be sure to find a treasure around every bend in the road. Travel along historic Route. Tioga County is home to 3 state parks, (including Hills Creek State Park), 2 federal parks, seven lakes, the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon and the Pine Creek Rail Trail.

Access to the Grand Canyon
West rim - 5 miles South side of highway. Also access to the Colton Point State Park - South side of highway. On the west rim of the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, the 368-acre Colton Point State Park resonates with the rustic charm of the Civilian Conservation Corps era of the 1930s. The rugged overlooks offer great views of the canyon. The campground is open from the second Friday in April until the third Sunday in October. Rustic toilets, tables, fire rings and a sanitary dump station are provided.

Access to the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania - East rim - South of the highway. Access to the Tioga State Forest. The name Tioga, and Indian word meaning the meeting of two rivers, is the name of a tribe of Seneca Indians who once inhabited the area. The Tioga State Forest, consisting of 160,000 acres of state forest land in Bradford and Tioga Counties, was named after this tribe of Indians

'Pine Creek Path - A Seneca trail from the Genesee to the Susquehanna at Jersey Shore, forked one mile south of here. One branch ran through the gorge of Pine Creek, the other crossed the hills, following Darling Run and Babb Creek back to Pine Creek at Blackwell.'

Located in scenic Tioga County,Pa. the 407-acre Hills Creek State Park Campground has 102-site camping sites - modern washhouses with warm showers, restrooms, and water fountains are in central locations throughout the camping area. A sanitary dump station is just outside the camping area.

Access to Mount Pisgah State Park
North of the highway. Mt. Pisgah State Park is in the scenic Endless Mountains region of Pennsylvania’s Northern Tier. Midway between Troy and Towanda in Bradford County, the 1,302-acre park is along Mill Creek, at the base of Mt. Pisgah, elevation 2,260 feet. Stephen Foster Lake provides habitat for perch, bass, bluegill and crappie.
