In October 1925, the Joint Board on Interstate Highways recommended a 75,884-mile U.S. numbered system. One of the routes in the proposal was U.S. 6: Pennsylvania Beginning at the New York-Pennsylvania State line at Port Jervis, Pa. via Matamoras, Pa. Milford, Pa. Honesdale, Pa. Carbondale, Pa. West rim - 5 miles South side of highway. Also access to the Colton Point State Park - South side of highway. On the west rim of the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, the 368-acre Colton Point State Park resonates with the rustic charm of the Civilian Conservation Corps era of the 1930s. The rugged overlooks offer great views of the canyon. The campground is open from the second Friday in April until the third Sunday in October. Rustic toilets, tables, fire rings and a sanitary dump station are provided. |

North of the highway. Mt. Pisgah State Park is in the scenic Endless Mountains region of Pennsylvania’s Northern Tier. Midway between Troy and Towanda in Bradford County, the 1,302-acre park is along Mill Creek, at the base of Mt. Pisgah, elevation 2,260 feet. Stephen Foster Lake provides habitat for perch, bass, bluegill and crappie. |
