Byway Description: Experience dramatic, close-up views of the most beautiful of the snowcapped High Cascade Peaks. The panorama of lava fields and six Cascade peaks, as viewed from the summit of McKenzie Pass, is made even more striking by the contrast between the black lava and white snow. The mountains are mirrored in crystal-clear lakes. View spectacular waterfalls, including Sahalie and Koosah Falls.

At the Junction of State Highway #20/126 with State Highway #242, in Sisters, Oregon, McKenzie Pass-Santiam Pass Scenic Byway ends, being a loop road, the byway's starting location is also the same. Camp Polk was a former army camp in Oregon, One of nine camps created during a time of conflict between settlers and Native Americans. Sisters Eagle Air Airport, a public airport, also used for wildfire aircraft operations. Sisters, Oregon, located Deschutes County, Oregon, within Deschutes National Forest. Hiking, biking and horse riding trails go from the city limits into the Three Sisters Wilderness. The Sisters area is home to several mountain biking trails, including the Peterson Ridge and Suttle Lake trails. Hoodoo ski resort and many snow parks are nearby.
