West to Lostine, Oregon - Wallowa, Oregon - Minam, Oregon. South access to Wallowa Lake, Oregon & Wallowa Lake State Park Campground. Camping; 121 full hookup, 89 tent site, day-use area and boat ramp. Most campsites close for the winter, but four sites stay open (with no water service),

Wallowa County was settled in the mid to late 1800s. This is an example of old homesteads scattered throughout the valley.

Leap Lane
The town of Leap, Oregon was named for 'leap year.' It's fairly abandoned now, and the area is a sharptail grouse reintroduction area. Conservation Reserve Progam (CRP) lands are found along this road--allowing natural vegetation to return to the area.

Boise Cascade Scenic Driving Tour and Nature Hike
Boise Cascade maintains a driving tour loop that gives the visitor a better understanding of forest maintenance. There's also a short nature hike (3/4 mile) with parking available down this road. Near the end of the driving tour loop is a vista viewpoint south towards the Eagle Cap Wilderness.

    From here you can see deep into Joseph Canyon, named for Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce. The Nez Perce wintered over in the canyons because they are snow free.

        Road to Flora and Troy
        Flora, Oregon (3 miles) and Troy, Oregon (16 miles) were once thriving communities in Wallowa, Oregon County. They are still sparsely inhabited and many picturesque old buildings stand. Check out the Flora Schoolhouse, a classic building on the National Register of Historic Places. It is possible to take the Flora Road down to Troy, then follow the road along the Grande Ronde River to Boggan's Oasis in Washington, where'll you'll pick up your northward route once again.

        Buford Ridge Road marks the beginning of the descent on the Buford Grade into the Grande Ronde Valley.
