Description: Encounter the Santa Fe Trail, one of America's first great trade routes. The trail (1821-1880) was also critical to the westward expansion of the U.S. Visit historic sites and landmarks such as Raton Pass, Cimarron, Fort Union, Wagon Mound, Point of Rocks, McNeese Crossing, Las Vegas, Pecos, and Santa Fe. Enjoy spectacular scenery, from rugged mountains to the grama-buffalo grass found on the plains east of the Sangre de Cristo. At Fort Union National Monument, you can see wagon ruts worn into the land over 150 years ago.
