This charming village is a great place to get out and stretch your legs. Shops, galleries, and a cafe and local cocina compete with the occasional glimpse of Hollywood celebrities - all in a traditional Spanish village first settled in 1806. The historic church, located on the old plaza behind the Arroyo Seco Mercantile, was recently renovated by community volunteers. |

Adobe and Stars B&B and the 'Rim' overlooking the Valdez Valley

The Adobe and Stars looks down into the Valdez Valley. Pit houses built well over 1,000 years ago by the Ancestral Pueblo have been located in this fertile valley. It was a center for wheat and apple production in more recent years. Remnants of old family apple orchards can still be seen here. At the narrowest portion of the valley, about 3 miles to the west, are the ruins of Turleys Mill. Turley was a moonshiner who produced whiskey that was often traded with hostile Indian tribes throughout the west. During the Taos Revolt of 1847 the local New Mexicans laid siege to the structure for 2 days and ended up burning it down and killing the occupants. |

This scenic county road winds through and then up and out of the valley of Valdez. Rambling on what is basically a one lane road past orchards and sleeping dogs, this road will eventually take you back to NM 150 at The Cottonwood Inn. |
