Access to community of Cochiti Pueblo, New Mexico, Cochiti Lake, New Mexico recreation area. Cochiti Lake is located within the boundries of the Pueblo de Cochiti Nation on the Rio Grande about fifty miles upstream from Albuquerque. Cochiti is one of the four units for flood and sediment control on the Rio Grande, operating in conjunction with Galisteo, Jemez Canyon and Abiquiu Dams. Water for this lake is imported from the Colorado River Basin to the Rio Grande Basin via the San Juan Diversion Project across the Continental Divide. Recreational facilities include campsites, electrical hookups, picnic sites, group shelters, restrooms/showers, drinking water, dump stations.

Junction of Highway #22. Access to city of Santa Domingo Pueblo-North of highway. Santo Domingo Pueblo is located near the ancient Cerrillos turquoise mines, the village people have a distinguished history of making fine jewelry and heishi. The Santo Domingo people are still great traders, very much like their Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon ancestors. Many roadside stands with jewelry, pottery and silverwork for sale can be found during a visit to this pueblo. |

North to community of Algodones, New Mexico. Access to historic Highway Route 66.
Immortalized as the 'Mother Road' in John Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath, when it was designated in 1926, this national highway was one of the first roads to connect the Midwest to the West Coast, and rural areas to urban ones. In New Mexico, Route 66 slices across the entire state, from border to border, and, before a 1937 realignment, it made a loop to Santa Fe, then rejoined the main highway at Albuquerque.
