White Mountain National Forest, Maine - Western Boundary
White Mountain National Forest, Maine. There are campgrounds, hiking trails, scenic drives, historic places, and plenty of space to just sit back and relax. The White Mountain provides a variety of developed camping opportunities in 23 campgrounds scattered around the Forest. They range in size from seven to 176 sites. Some accept reservations, others are first-come, first-served. Some provide running water and flush toilets, others are more on the rustic side. Several can accommodate recreational vehicles, but none offer hook ups, dump stations, or telephones.

Community of Bethel, Maine. Access to Bethel Chamber of Commerce Visitor Information Center located south on Parkway. This is a full information Center with staff who are very knowledgeable of the area. From the tree-lined historic village common in downtown Bethel to the majestic mountaintop views of nearby Grafton Notch State Park and the White Mountain National Forest, there is a special feeling in Bethel. Nestled along the banks of the beautiful Androscoggin River, surrounded by Maine's Appalachian Mountains, Bethel has welcomed visitors for more than two hundred years.

North To Grafton Notch State Park. Grafton Notch State Park is located on Route 26 between Newry and Upton, Maine, and offers opportunities for sightseeing, picnicking, and hiking on its 3,000 acres of beautiful natural terrain. Several interesting attractions are conveniently located on scenic Route 26. Interpretive signs explain the glacial sculpting of Screw Auger Falls and the formation of Mother Walker Falls. A quarter-mile loop trail leads to Moose Cave with its narrow gorge and lush lichens and mosses. At Spruce Meadow and Screw Auger Falls visitors will find picnic tables and grills.

Between 10 - 15000 people hitched up their oxen or horses and went west. It was a brutal, exhausting journey, markedby attacks by Indian and bands of highwaymen.

Community of Dixfield, Maine, north to communities of Carthage, Maine, Berry Mills, Maine, Weld, Maine. North to Mount Blue State Park Campground. Mt. Blue State Park offers a visitors an extensive network of trails, a sandy beach, popular camping area, boat launch and picnic area. Picturesque Webb Beach is an ideal location for beach-going enthusiasts. Nearby Center Hill Area is a scenic picnic spot that provides access to nature trails and extensive multiple use trails that are open to hikers, mountain bikers, and ATV and horseback riders. 5,021 acres; campground; sand beach with bathhouse; hot showers; flush toilets; boat launch; amphitheater, and nature center. The Adirondack shelters are available for large group use, and canoes may be rented. The park maintains cross-country ski trails, a major snowmobile trail, and an ice rink during the winter.
