Byway: Indiana - The National Road - Indiana
Byway Description: Traveling along our nation's first highway, the landscape is little changed since the heyday of the route in the 1940's. Historic villages with traditional Main Streets give way to productive fields and tranquil pastures. From the Federal-style "Pike Towns" and Victorian streetcar neighborhoods, to drive-ins and stainless steel diners where thick slabs of pie and black coffee are still served on white china, you can follow the westward migration of the nation.
