California - Death Valley Scenic Byway
Description: With an average of one and one-half inches of rain per year, and average high temperatures nearing 120 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer, this region is one of the driest and hottest environments in the Western hemisphere. When you pass from the lowest point to the highest summit, you'll cross four major plant zones. This complex ecosystem includes piņon pine, mesquite, cacti, rattlesnakes, owls, and bighorn sheep.
