Byway: California - Death Valley Scenic Byway

Byway Description: With an average of one and one-half inches of rain per year, and average high temperatures nearing 120 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer, this region is one of the driest and hottest environments in the Western hemisphere. When you pass from the lowest point to the highest summit, you'll cross four major plant zones. This complex ecosystem includes piņon pine, mesquite, cacti, rattlesnakes, owls, and bighorn sheep.

20 Mule Team Road. A scene from Star Wars called Jabba's Palace Road was shot in this canyon. The canyon was used by the Pacific Coast Borax Company to haul borax from mines up the canyon road.

North Road. 1/4 mile is the connection to Daylight pass road. This road becomes highway 267 at the Nevada Border and ends at Scotty's Junction, Nevada. Roughly an hour Northwest is Scotty's Castle, a popular ranch owned by Death Valley National Park. Access also to Titus Canyon, Fall Canyon, Ubehebe crater.
