Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area. Over 80,000 acres of magnificent desert are open for off-road exploration and recreation areas. Open camping is permitted throughout the unit for up to 30 days per calendar year. Vault toilets, shade ramadas, picnic tables, and fire rings are located in the Quarry, Main St., and Holmes Camp areas. Water is not available. A waste disposal station is located on Ranger Station Road.

South to Cuyamaca Rancho, California State Park. Access to Lake Cayamaca. Note: Highway #79 overlaps highway at this point. Cuyamaca Rancho State Park has over 26,000 acres offers camping and hiking in an oak woodland forest. There are two family camps, Paso Picacho and Green Valley. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. Restrooms with flush toilets and pay showers are in the campground. Water faucets a located every few campsites. There are no hookups. Each campground has a dump station.
