View from highway - Photo The Jack Wade Gold Dredge, Alaska The Jack Wade Gold Dredge is vislble from the east side of the Taylor Highway. The Jack Wade Dredge, began as the Butte Creek Dredge. Installed in 1934 below the mouth of Butte Creek, it was later moved to Walker Fork, then to Wade Creek. It was one of the first bucket-line dredges used in the area and it worked the longest time. Mining continues in the vicinity today, some on lands managed by the BLM of Alaska. Alaska Highway #1 - Tetlin Junction, Alaska to Chicken, Alaska This highway follows the old Eagle-Valdez Telegraph route. Its a narrow, winding road with great scenery that joins The Top of the World Highway , which leads to Dawson City, Yukon Territory, Canada.
