Durango \"The Wild West State\" Highways

Most of the state of Durango, Mexico is heavily mountainous and a good part of it forested, the Sierra Madre Occidental occupies the western and central part of the state offering many magnificent natural environments, this are great areas for outdoor activities like hiking where you can observe diverse flora and fauna.

Travel it's Mexico highways and find in the towns and villages hospital people and the traditional markets where you can find traditional hadcrafts such as wool garments, embroidered items, ceramics, and various products made of vegetable fibers by the Tepehuano Indians.

Drive back in time to the \"Wild West State\" of Durango. The state of Durango\'s beautiful landscape, features lush forests and stunning canyons, valleys, rivers, lagoons and deserts that have served as the setting for several Hollywood films. During the 1950s, a total of 116 Wild West movies were filmed in the area and some of the preserved sets are now open to the public. Check local areas and see if you can take in a Mexican Charreados (Rodeo)

As a result of its diverse natural landscape, Durango offers a variety of attractions. It houses two biosphere reserves, over 250 species of migratory and local birds, impressive archeological sites with cave paintings and stunning architectural .

The city of Durango, Mazatlán (147 miles, 324 km) on the Pacific coast and inland cities such as Monterrey (275 miles, 600 km) and Saltillo (240 miles, 525 km). While in Durango City, visit, the main squares Plaza de Armas and Plaza del Centenario located within a few blocks from each other. Enjoy the unique flora and fauna, the hot and cold-water springs, pleasant year-round weather and 17th and 18th-century buildings. Visit the Lesser Basilica Cathedral, the Ricardo Castro Theater, and the Ganot-Peschard Museum of Archeology.

On highway #30, in Mapini (just outside of the City of Gomez Palacio), you'll find the Puente de Ojuela (Suspension bridge). Built in, 1898, this pedestrian foot bridge is still in use.
