Baja Caifornia Sur (South)

Population: 430,000
Size: 28,551 square miles
Location: Baja California Peninsula

Important cities/sites within the state: El Vizcaíno whale sanctuary, La Paz (capital), Loreto, Los Cabos, Magdalena Bay and San Ignacio
Time zone: Mountain Standard Time

Just getting to Baja California Sur brings RVers through scenic desert driving, but once there this state's diverse landscape's stunning narrow canyons, hot spring lakes, its majestic Sierra de la Giganta mountain and the Sierra de la Laguna Biosphere Reserve.

Plan for a generous stop at La Paz and take in the sport fishing, snorkeling with playful sea lions, diving with hammerhead sharks and giant manta rays, kayaking next to the dolphins and whales or just lounging in the peaceful bays of Espiritu Santo Island. After your visit in La Paz, take your RV south by continuing on Highway #1, then looping back to La Paz on Highway #19. This is one of Mexico's best scenic drives, with numerous small towns, and of course, Mexico's most breathtaking beach destinations, which include Cabo San Lucas, San José del Cabo and the stretch of beach in between.

Stop in Loreto, a small town setting, whale watching (Jan-Mar), more beaches, cave paintings and historical architecture.

Todos Santos, is the last major town on this scenic loop. Being less developed, it allows for a more laid back relaxed vacation.
