Community of Norwood. North to Petroglyphs Provincial Park 31 km's. no camping, recreation park with picnic tables, toilets. Deep within a forest northeast of Peterborough is the largest concentration of aboriginal rock carvings in North America. Chiseled into white marble rock face 1,200 years ago, the 900 petroglyphs depict turtles, snakes, birds and humans. Hiking trails meander through surrounding forests, wetlands and rocky ridges.

South to community of Trent River, community of Campbellford, Ferris Provincial Park. campground 163 campsites showers flush toilets. Situated on hilly drumlins, this park borders and provides access to the busy Trent River south of Campbellford. Scenic bluffs carved out of limestone bedrock provide a view of picturesque Ranney Falls. Overgrown stone fences and cleared meadows are relics of farms once worked here.

Community of Kaladar. South to community of Erinsville. North to Bon Echo Provincial Park. Camping 528 campsites. Sheer Bon Echo Rock rises 100 metres out of deep Mazinaw Lake for 1.5 kilometres at this park north of Kaladar. The Algonkians painted 260 red-ochre pictographs on it, and Bon Echo resort owner and suffragette Flora MacDonald Denison couldn't resist etching words from a Walt Whitman poem. A tour boat takes a close look at this Canadian Gibraltar and a lookout on top offers a panoramic view of this southern bit of Canadian Shield, a blazing canvas

With shoreline on Black and Sharbot lakes, this park edging Highway 7 promises first-class, warm- and cold-water fishing. Nature trails along a ridge between the lakes loop through stands of maple, oak and birch and lead to lookouts. Black Lake has two sandy beaches.

Services at highway, south side. Silver Lake Provincial Park, north of highway 1 km. Camping. 148 sites,26 elec. sites, flush toilets, showers. Silver Lake near Perth is a long, narrow trough of water carved out by glaciers. While its long sandy beach is the big attraction, a marsh at the eastern end of the lake is another. A boardwalk crosses the marsh through the noisy, colourful habitat of painted turtles and bullfrogs, red-winged black birds and mallards.

Located on the historic Rideau Waterway, this park near Perth offers tours of a restored mica mine and trails to sawmill ruins and pioneer homesteads. From Big Rideau Lake, where there are boat-in campsites, visitors can paddle and hike to three inland lakes. Trails are groomed for cross-country skiing.
