East to community of Big Chute, Big Chute Marine Railway.Imagine portaging over land without ever stepping out of your boat. At Big Chute, where the Severn River rushes down a long chute of granite, a huge, 100-tonne open carriage lets you do just that. Riding on twin tracks, it lifts boats out of the water, offloading them again into the river on the other side. The Trent-Severn Waterway is a National Historic Site of Canada. East to Severn Falls. West to community of South Bay.

East to Six Mile Provincial Park, camping,217 campsites, 53 elec sites, flush toilets showers. Three sandy beaches, calm waters for swimming, canoeing and fishing, and a scenic hiking trail make this park near Highway 400 a convenient stopover. Wildlife is abundant and, oddly, so are rare species: birds (yellow-throated vireos), plants (yellow-eyed grass), insects (walking sticks) and reptiles (five-lined skinks).

Follow Waterview Trail and learn how Bass Lake park, a farm for more than 100 years, was transformed to a recreational park. Just west of Orillia - close to historic Huronia - it is a popular spot for swimming, hiking, fishing and boating. Its fields and trails good for skiing and snowshoeing in winter.

East to community of Dalston, Edgar. West to community of Midhurst. Spring Water Provincial Park. Picnics and Day Use Open year round, this day-use park is ideal for outdoor recreation. There is a well equipped children's play ground, horseshoe pits, basketball court and large, open play area. Eight picnic shelters can accommodate groups of 25 to 500 people.
