Fort Anne National Historic Site of Canada
South side of highway. Situated in the town of Annapolis Royal, Fort Anne provides a special opportunity to bring Canada's past to the present.
In the 1630's, two decades after the English destroyed the original Habitation at Port Royal, the French returned to the area and settled further upriver. Over the years, they built four different forts on this site. Annapolis Royal was the official capital of Nova Scotia from 1713 to 1749, when Halifax was founded.
