Downtown Lunenburg. The Town of Lunenburg, NS, was formally established in 1753 as the first British Colonial settlement in Nova Scotia outside of Halifax. These early settlers were from various parts of Germany, Switzerland, and the Montbeliard region of France. They followed in the footsteps of earlier Mikmaq and Acadian inhabitants in the area. - Attractions in Lunenburg: Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic; the Museum offers the fishing heritage of the Atlantic coast of Canada. The museum is housed in brightly painted red buildings, with floating vessels at wharfside. The historic Bluenose, is celebrated in an exhibit that contains the world's largest collection of Bluenose artifacts.- Knaut Rhuland House Museum; The Knaut-Rhuland House is a turn of the nineteenth century two and-a-half storey wooden Georgian structure - Capt.
