A massive, star-shaped fortification that is considered one of Canada's most important historic sites. The present citadel, completed in 1856, is the fourth fort built on this site after the British founded Halifax in 1749 as one of four principal overseas naval stations in the British Empire. Town Antigonish to City of Dartmouth / Halifax This highway becomes part of the Marine Drive Scenic Drive Trailway following the south eastern coast of Nova Scotia.
