Nova Scotia Road Map Travel Guide

This highway follows the south eastern shore of Cape Breton Island. Starting at the rich in history community of Louisbourg, ending at the Marconi National Historic Site which marks the location of the first west-to-east transatlantic radio transmission in 1902. There is a museum at this point which is open to the public (at no cost Aug/2002)

Entering Town of Glace Bay, NS
All services. In the 1720s the French inhabited the area to supply Fortress Louisbourg, NS; with coal. Glace Bay has one of North America’s Largest Mining Museums. The Cape Breton Miners’ Museum exhibits the region's long and rich history of coal mining. 'The Men of the Deeps choir' perform at the Miners' Museum theater throughout the summer.

Marconi National Historic Site, Museum
Start / Finish of the Marconi Trail Scenic Drive Trailway. In 1902, the first official wireless message was sent from this site across the Atlantic Ocean to England. Visitors can see the Wireless Hall of Fame and walk the interpretive trail to the original transmission station.
