Little Bay, NL, once called Indian Bight, is a community 16 miles from Springdale, NL. The community of Little Bay, NL, was founded in 1878 when James Howley, a geological surveyor arrived and camped on the unoccupied beach. The opening of a mine in 1878, known then as the 'El Dorado of Newfoundland', brought many settlers to Little Bay,NL, making it the second largest community in Newfoundland (pop. over 5000).
