From Port Saunders, NL, continue on the Viking Trail to the junction with route 436, about 20 km before St. Anthony, NL. Follow route 436 for 30 km to L'Anse aux Meadows, NL, National Historic Site. At the tip of the Great Northern Peninsula of the island of Newfoundland, the remains of an 11th-century Viking settlement are evidence of the first European presence in North America.
