Welcome to Fort Steele, the fun capital of East Kootenay. The steam railway goes through here now, transporting both adults and children back to a friendlier, more carefree time. Walk into the luxury of the North-West Mounted Police Officers' Quarters and imagine Galbraith's Ferry in 1887, sitting down to dinner with a full table service and servants in the back room. Or walk out and catch a wagon pulled by large black Clydesdale horses. The ride through time is pungent with odours from the bakery (and the horses), the field crops and the flower gardens. |
