City of Campbell River. West to village of Gold River, Muchalat Inlet, community of Tahsis. South to Namaino, Victoria. North to Port Hardy, ferries to Prince Rupert, Bella Coola.
1.8 1.1 Elk Falls Provincial Park
South side of highway. This park offers 122 vehicle accessible campsites. Approximately 25 of these sites border the Quinsam River; the rest are set in a second-growth forest. The Quinsam Campground entrance is located on the west side of the Quinsam Bridge. Campsite reservations are accepted and first-come, first-served sites are also available.

Access north side of highway. Strathcona Dam Recreation Area is located at the southern end of Upper Campbell Lake Reservoir in the shadows of Strathcona Dam. It is easily accessible from Highway 28, and is only 30 km southwest of Campbell River. Look for the Strathcona Dam Recreation Area sign indicating the turnoff on the highway. Follow the signs along the forest service road for 4 km.

Access to hiking trail. Crest Mountain: Length, 5 km. Suggested time, 4 hours. Elevation change: 1,250 metres. Trail starts at Highway 28. Excellent views above 1,300 metres.

West to Village of Tahsis, 64 kms gravel road (2002). Tahsis has something for everyone who wants to experience an outdoor adventure on the west coast of Vancouver Island, such as a Vancouver Island fishing charter, a sea kayaking tour, or hiking Nootka Trail. Experience Tahsis with a leisurely historical walking tour of the town or, for the more adventurous, extreme kayaking and surfing on the wild west coast of Nootka Island and Kyuquot Sound.
