Access to Cottonwood House Historic Site
 |
Completed in 1865, Cottonwood House was once a haven where weary miners, stagecoach drivers and travellers heading to Barkerville and the goldmines could count on a hearty meal and a good night's rest. Visitors to the house today can examine the Double Barn that once sheltered stagecoaches. The General Store now houses an interpretive/information centre and restaurant.

Barkerville Historic Town, the largest heritage attraction in British Columbia, Canada. Barkerville is famous by the Great Cariboo Gold Rush. Barkerville is named after Billy Barker who discovered the mother lode. William Dietz, Ned Stout, Fanny Bendixon, John Bowron, Betty Wendle, and other legends are part of Barkervilles History.

Photos of Barkerville. Baker and Company Claim. This shaft was on the Baker Company Claim which was staked in 1862 ' below the canyon, 800 feet along the flats'. From 1862 to 1900 The Barker Co. took out $600,000 in gold. Billy Barker sold his claim and ended his days as a poor prospector again. |
